BUSINESS
CJ Biomaterials is a division of CJ CheilJedang (a core subsidiary of South Korea's CJ Group), launched as a standalone business unit in 2022 but building on PHA technology development dating to 2010. US headquarters in Woburn, Massachusetts; R&D center with 800 staff in Korea. They manufacture polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) biopolymers under the PHACTâ„¢ brand, with a commercial production facility in Pasuruan, Indonesia. They are the world's only producer of amorphous PHA (aPHA) and have a collaboration agreement with NatureWorks (PLA producer) for blended biopolymer solutions. The parent company CJ BIO operates 13 fermentation manufacturing facilities globally and is also a major producer of amino acids for animal and human nutrition.
