BUSINESS
ChainCraft is an Amsterdam-based biotech company that converts agri-food residues (notably potato processing waste) into medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs, primarily caproic acid/C6) and short-chain fatty acids (butyric acid) via mixed-culture fermentation. They are building a full-scale 20,000 tpa factory in Ter Apelkanaal, Netherlands, and have secured an EIC Accelerator grant (€2.5M plus up to €15M in equity). Commercial partnerships include Innovad Group (exclusive butyric acid supply for animal nutrition), Agrifirm (strategic MCFA offtake), and Eternis (fragrance ingredient development). They also produce potassium sulphate (SOP) as a co-product.
BIOTECH INVOLVEMENT
Core; Amsterdam-based (Wageningen heritage) using mixed-culture continuous fermentation to upcycle agri-food residues (notably potato side streams) into medium-chain fatty acids and bio-based chemicals as alternatives to fossil- and palm-oil-derived products.
TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM
Non-sterile open mixed culture fermentation; continuous process
PRIMARY PRODUCTS
Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA) including C-Craft for animal nutrition, X-Craft chemical derivatives
