BUSINESS
Develops algae-derived polyurethanes as biodegradable replacements for petroleum-based foams and molded materials in footwear, furniture, and other applications. Develops biodegradable, bio-based polyurethane materials from algae and plant oils. Soleic is USDA BioPreferred certified at 100% biocontent for polyols; 52% bio-based overall with a target of 98%. Recently commissioned a Bio-Iso pilot plant. Partnership with P2 Science (November 2025) to develop 100% bio-based polyurethane supply chain using algae-derived azelaic acid
BIOTECH INVOLVEMENT
Partial; San Diego polymer company making algal-oil-based polyurethanes (Soleic) for flexible foam applications (footwear, furniture). Algal triglycerides are converted via green flow chemistry to polyols and matched isocyanates; the polymerization step is chemical synthesis. Public sources do not confirm whether algae are cultivated in-house.
TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM
Soleic AB PU system; Soleic TPU system
PRIMARY PRODUCTS
Plant-based polyurethane foams and materials for footwear, surfboards, phone cases
