BUSINESS
Windfall Bio uses naturally occurring methanotrophic bacteria to convert waste methane from agricultural manure lagoons, landfills, and energy sites into FOUNDATION, an OMRI-certified organic fertilizer available in pellet and powder forms.A demo plant was expected to be operational in Q4 2025. Field trials on specialty crops have shown yield improvements. The company also generates certified carbon credits from methane destruction.
BIOTECH INVOLVEMENT
Biotech is central to the business. Windfall Bio uses communities of non-GMO soil methanotrophs adapted for industrial use via continuous evolution. The microbes consume both dilute and concentrated methane streams as their primary carbon and energy source while simultaneously fixing atmospheric nitrogen, producing nitrogen-rich biomass that is processed into organic fertilizer. The bioreactor system is designed to be low-cost and low-maintenance, requiring no combustion or complex infrastructure.
