BUSINESS

Novonesis was formed in January 2024 through the merger of Novozymes and Chr. Hansen and is the global market leader in industrial enzymes and microbial cultures, with 2024 revenue of approximately EUR 3.7 billion and around 10,000 employees across 23 manufacturing sites and more than 30 R&D centers worldwide. The company is organized into Food & Health Biosolutions (around 55% of sales) and Planetary Health Biosolutions (around 45%), serving dairy, baking, household care, animal nutrition, agriculture, bioenergy, biopharma, and human health. Recent activity includes the EUR 1.5 billion acquisition of dsm-firmenich's stake in the Feed Enzyme Alliance (closed June 2025) and a March 2025 industrial biocatalysis partnership with SEQENS.

BIOTECH INVOLVEMENT

Industrial biotechnology is the entirety of the business, with Novonesis the largest standalone industrial biotech company globally. Capabilities span enzyme discovery and engineering, strain development across bacteria, yeasts, and filamentous fungi (Aspergillus, Bacillus, Trichoderma, lactic acid bacteria, Bifidobacterium), large-scale submerged fermentation, downstream processing, and formulation. Product categories include food and beverage enzymes, dairy and meat cultures, probiotics, prebiotics (HMOs), feed enzymes, household care enzymes, biofuels enzymes, and biopharma processing aids.
