BUSINESS
Nestlé Health Science (NHS) is the medical nutrition, consumer health, and pharmaceutical therapies arm of Nestlé. Brands include Nature's Bounty, Garden of Life, Vital Proteins, Orgain, Persona, Pure Encapsulations, Solgar, BOOST, Carnation Breakfast Essentials, Peptamen, Compleat, Optifast, and Modulen, plus Crohn's-related therapies and metabolic disease pharmaceutical assets; revenue is reported within parent Nestlé's Health Science segment at roughly CHF 6–7 billion annually with several thousand employees globally. The unit was built largely through acquisitions including Pamlab, Atrium Innovations, Aimmune Therapeutics, Vital Proteins, The Bountiful Company's wellness brands, Orgain, and Nuun.
BIOTECH INVOLVEMENT
The relevant biotech capability sits at the parent-company level in Nestlé Research (Lausanne) and the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences, where Nestlé announced in May 2025 a strategic ramp-up of precision fermentation, screening assays, and biotic (pre-, pro-, post-, syn-) development to feed both NHS and the broader Nestlé portfolio. NHS is a major downstream offtake destination for fermentation-derived ingredients (probiotics, postbiotics, HMOs, yeast-derived ingredients, plant-based proteins) sourced from suppliers including IFF, Chr. Hansen/Novonesis, dsm-firmenich, and various precision fermentation startups.
